Seli Hydropower has been and is committed to an ongoing interactive consultation program designed to maximise community awareness of the Bumbuna II project and to encourage community input and partnership. We believe this close collaboration with interested organisations and individuals has and will help us construct and operate the best project possible for the communities located near the site and for the country as a whole.
Since 2011, we have had numerous meetings and discussions with a wide range of stakeholders including:
Village Development Committees (VDCs) and Project Area Development Committees (PADs) will continue to be used to receive local feedback and enable local participation in the development process. We have recruited a team of Community Liaison Assistants to keep affected communities fully informed, to listen to their concerns and needs and to ensure there is a constructive dialogue throughout the process.
In January 2018, formal public consultation meetings took place at four venues across the affected communities, with a final consultation meeting held in Freetown. The contents of the Environmental, Social and Health Impact Assessment (ESHIA) were discussed, along with Seli Hydropower’s action plans regarding Resettlement, Biodiversity and Community Development. Comments and questions made by the communities were documented and these, along with Seli Hydropower’s responses, were submitted to Sierra Leone’s Environmental Protection Agency
We have set up a dedicated helpline for anyone who has questions or would like to submit comments, all of which will be takin into consideration. We aim to respond to all submissions within 48 hours.
